Evolution Audio no longer works

  • Follow

I have an Evolution MK 149 midi keyboard that came with Evolution Audio
software and since updating to Win XP SP2 the software no longer opens.
Can anyone please advise me if there is a solution to making the software
work.
Or are there any other cheap alternatives that will let me select a variety
of instrument sounds and then record tracks into the computer while playing
the midi keyboard I have?
Thanks a lot.

There is a solution for you.
In xp, right click on the icon for the program.
click on properties
Then click on the compatiblility tab
Check the run in compatibilty mode for box
then pick windows 98 from the drop down menu.

If you remember what screen size you ran the program in, also set that
size.

Then click on ok.

If this does not solve your problem, you will need to resort to method
two.

Method two, buy a second drive.
install the drive in a removable ide drive drawer. (available on ebay
for about $12 each, you need two)

Install windows 98 on that drive.
Install the program on that drive.
Install your other drive in the second drawer.

Now you can pull out your drives frrom the front of the computer.

When ever you want to run windows 98 programs, you just turn off your
computer, pull out the drive, slide the other dirve in, and turn on
your computer and it boots up in that operating system with what
programs you have installed on it.

Methed 3. There are some dual boot programs that allow a drive to boot
from one drive or the other, and install a second operating system in a
partition of the drive

Method 4.

If you have a bios that allows it, You can go into bios and switch
which drive is the boot drive.

This allows you to put windows 98 on one drive, and windows xp on
another, and just go to bios to switch which one you want to use, and
then reboot.

Here is a web page with a photo of what you need for a removable drive
bay.

$10 price, get two of them, and its a buy it now option.

If you get the removable drive bay, get only ones that have fans. They
run hotter than a normal drive.

Also take the tray, and drill extra holes in it, so you get better
cooling than they designed it, or you might end up with frequenct hot
drive error problems, like I did until I did this.

Thanks, notejam.
I discovered that the win xp sp2 was not the problem but the automatic
updates in win xp had moved a files, autoexec.nt from the system 32
directory to another directory. I copied the file back into the system 32
directory and then the software worked as before.
So far windows also works as expected, so I guess it was ok to put the file
back nto the directory that evolution audio needed.
I do have anothe question, though. Evolution audio only makes files in a sng
format which cant be opened or played by other software.
Can you suggest a cheap or free sequencer that I could use to play my midi
keyboard on and record the tracks and save into something like wav files?
Evolution audio is very nice in that it offers a large bank of instruments
and you can record many tracks and build up a fairly decent song if you have
any musical talent, which I don't. I just use it to create fairly simple
music for my videos.
I tried a few other free sequencers I found free on magazines but they are
way too complex and I couldn't figure them out. One was called CM session
and the other was called Magix music maker 2005 silver.
Thanks.

Great!
If it moved it to the system folder, there must be programs that
require it to be there?
You might make a copy and have a copy in each folder.

I think that upgrader, might be able to tell its not there and just do
it again.
