Help with an Old Keyboard (Ensoniq SQ1) to PC
Hello, I am completely new to PC recording. I have Sonar & Fruity
Loops and want to use my old Ensoniq SQ1 (Midi 1.0) to control. I am
planning to buy the new PCMCIA EMU 1616 interfase for the Midi input
and also to record my electric guitar, but before spending the $ I
want to make sure this old Ensoniq baby will work. I appreciate your
help.

Should be able to make it work if you have a pcmcia port on your
computer for the interface to plug into. Try loading and playing
midi files first,, and after you have that working then go after
recording. Roland makes a midi guitar device called gr-33, that can
convert your guitar to put out midi signals. You have to attach a
midi pickup to the guitar, if its not already a midi guitar. Will
also work on steel string acoustic guitars.
PCMCIA is mostly used on some laptops, and usually is not present as a
port on desktop pc computers.

..
You can donwload Anvil Studio or Jazz for free Try playing midi files
first, to make sure you have sound levels set/ nothing muted etc in
mixer, then go after recording input.
On pc you need to set what midi ports will be allowed usually in a
place in the program called options, or midi options, but in anvil,
its in view menu.

and I replied:
AFAIK MIDI is still MIDI, although they are muttering about extending
it.
However,. have you tried the keyboard with a PC MIDI setup, or a
modern keyboard? If so, then if it worked all should be OK. Otherwise,
ask EMU (Creative last time I looked) about what they think.
