i want to use my laptop running logic audio for midi sequencing in a
live situation.
however i do not want to have to touch the computer while im performing
between songs to select different songs.
is there a way i can have my midi foot controller send a song select
message to move from song to song?
should i put all the songs on the timeline and send SPP's? should i
group songs individually into touch tracks and generate note ons from
my foot controller?
has anybody ever used logic for this purpose?

Some versions of cakewalk (low cost cakewalk express) pause, and then
restart the sequence if you hit the space bar, so if you load in a
track, then paste it onto the end of another midi file, and kept on
doing that, you would end up with music that you could start/stop at a
click of the space bar.
Then there are macro key programs, that can let you trigger that space
bar input by a click of a mouse or joystick button.
(not too hard to add a jack on the side of a joystick, and build a foot
switch to plug into it.)
But this is all a lot of work, and a program you do not have.
Your Logic program probably lets you click on an icon of a midi file,
and then that file plays. Windows media also does this.
Try opening a folder with the file icons of the midi files showing, and
click on them. Think the one you click will play and use what ever
program associated with midi files. You can change association, and
get it to do it with live.
Also, if you open up a folder with midi files that are showing as
icons, you can highlight the one you want to start with.
(do not click it to run it, just highlight it.)
Then if you press return, it will start.
Then you need to know what hot keys get you out of it when it ends.
Then your arrow key can move you to the next icon, hit return and it
plays.

Certainly. I'd suggest a serious pass through the manual for starters.
Following that:
Preferences > Key Commands
Select the midi operation you want to take place. On the right most
colum there are various assignment options for input midi information
to control it.

I've used it while recording with midi guitar. I assigned the top
notes of each string to such options as, start recording,
stop-recording, wipe current recording and start again, pause and so
forth. I imported them whenever I wanted to do this kind of thing.
Though at one time they were part of the default set up. It was a
rarity that under normal circumstances I would these notes.
I actually did the same thing for awhile using a 66-note midi keyboard
since, again, I rarely used the highest keys.
The previous posting suggesting you buy a PC and software for that
computer instead is one of the reasons I suggest posting non-PC related
software questions to the mac usegroups as well.

Thank you and have a nice day.
