Midi problems with my Yamaha PSR-500

  • Follow

Hi all

I have a Yamaha PSR-500 which I want to connect to my computer.
However i'm having a nightmare trying to get it to work.

I'm having a go using Midi maestro I think its called, and using the
keyboard on the screen I can make my keyboard play notes, however I
can't play notes on my keyboard and get them to sound through the
computer....

Is there anything I have to do to get this to work? I am a midi
newbie, I think i've set the channels correctly though.....

I'm wondering if my keyboard is broken If i can only receive and not
send midi from it ?!?

I assume that you have read the PSR-500 manual and have set its
MIDI configuration to send MIDI out, and you have two MIDI cables
connecting MIDI in to MIDI out between your computer and keyboard.

What program you are using on your computer to receive the MIDI
signals and drive your computer sound board?

Thanks,

Hi!!!

I got an Yamaha DJX, aka PSR D1.

And this is Basic in using MIDI.

First of all.

It does not going out any Audio data by the MIDI interface, only MIDI
data, which are, note info, sysex, other infor like then you use Pitch
Bend Wheel.

The sound from the synth/keyboard you are using, goes allways out from
the instrument itself.

If you must have the computer also yell the same as the keyboard, you
have to configure the software to send MIDI signals to an soundcards
often GM library, which will give an other sound then the keyboard itself.

The audio comes allways out from the instrument itself, connected
eighter to headphones, cassettdeck, mixer or where you want to pic up
the audio signal for recording.

So this.

No Audio data thrue the MIDI interface.
The software only record MIDI data, not audio, unless you use an Audio
software, and then have connected the Audio Out from the synth to record
the Audio signal, but it was MIDI now, so forget that for the moment.

I hope this have helped a lot.
