seeking music notation renderer

I'm looking for software that will render some kind of musical notation. The
type of notation is negotiable. Any help greatly appreciated.

Peace

For a start try NoteWorthy Composer - download an evaluation copy from:
www.noteworthysoftware.com $39 to register if satisfied.
Good support and friendly user forum/newsgroup.

For a little more and better tools for MIDI and editing try:-
Geniesoft Score Writer - download a demo or buy from:
www.geniesoft.com $49US to purchase by download.
Good support - user forum on Yahoo groups.
My notator of choice.

(And than there are the $$EXPENSIVE$$ ones) !

The best choice would be Finale. They have many options from the free
"Notepad" to a comprehensive package. http://www.finalemusic.com/

If you're not scared of editing a text file, you could try out mup:

http://www.arkkra.com

It's a 29$ shareware and once registered you're subscribed to all future
versions, it is a very powerful package to produce sheet music: it has a
simple synthax, midi output and is multi-platform (I run it on linux).
Being text based you can edit your music even on a palm.

Another very powerful text based package is lilypond:

http://lilypond.org/web/

Lilypond is free software[0], but it has a more complicated synthax
than mup: check out the "crash course":

http://lilypond.org/web/switch/howto.html

Lilypond is a great piece of software, but it is more difficult to install
than mup (you must have an installation of TeX, for instance); however,
there are some "ready to run" solutions, for example the AGNULA/DeMuDi
GNU/linux distribution[1] or the planetCCRMA bundle[2]. AGNULA/DeMuDi also
has a "Live cd"[3] with which you can try linux without installing it (and
should also have a working lilypond installation). The live cd is only for
demo purposes, if you like it, consider a full AGNULA/DeMuDi installation
on the hard drive.

I don't want to advice running this programs in windows ;) , but there are
also windows versions of both... (for using them in windows you have to
install ghostscript, that is by default included in any linux distro)
