I wish I could help, my friend. I can feel your pain.

I am using the same USB/MIDI adapter with WinXP Home, but I'm still running
Home Studio 2004 XL. Like you, I had to download the XP driver. I had to
load that several times with several variations in sequence before I found
one that would work. It works fine now, but it had me going for a while
there. I can't tell you what I finally did that made it work. Just keep
trying.

Good luck to you.

I had the same problem in Fruity Loops. My set up was this: I had the
ux16 midi jack labeled OUT going into the OUT jack on my
keyboard...figuring that if you want to send midi messages OUT of your
keyboard and INto the computer, you did it that way. Out of
desperation, I took the ux16 IN jack and plugged it into my OUT jack
of the keyboard. Voila!! That did it. This doesn't sound correct to
me, but what the heck, I'm up and running, so I thought I'd post this
here. I hope it helps out.
