[News] GNU/Linux Does Well Even Without Marketing, New Linux Gazette Out

Linux Has No Marketing, But What if it Did?

,----[ Quote ]
| Many users of netbooks don't need, say, Microsoft's Office apps
| running. I use a netbook at home--and at events--for writing, web
| access, and e-mail. I can use Linux or Windows, so why not use the
| platform that is free of security problems? That would make for a
| good advertising campaign. Unfortunately, it's only an imaginary
| campaign.

Linux Gazette: October 2009 (#167)

,----[ Quote ]
| The October issue of Linux Gazette is now online and ready to
| peruse. Highlights include:
| * QQ on Linux, by Silas Brown
| * Away Mission - SecureWorld Expos
| * Away Mission - Upcoming in October
| * A Quick-Fire chroot Environment
| * Two is better than one!

Ubuntu: Marketing Frustrations

,----[ Quote ]
| If we can’t have a corporate sponsor such as Canonical, IBM, Intel, Google,
| Linux Foundation paying for adverts, then perhaps it’s time we started doing
| something as a community. I’m not talking about the nascar 500 debarkle, but
| more of the firefox in the paper, full page spread kind of marketing. This
| kind of marketing would take real organisation though, lots of research and a
| lot of time to pull together all the people interested in making it happen.
| That’s probably why it’s not been done before.

I have Linux! I have Linux!
Ok, after two days of trying to get Windos 1900 installed and working , I sat down an hour ago and installed Linux. In an hour. Smirk. Ok, I will be honest. I did have some problems, but I believe they were of my own ignorance. 0) I started with trying to install Suse. However, I couldn't get it to install. Why? Because I didn't read the menu. There is a startup menu and the first entry is boot to harddisk. I thought that was the thing to do so I did it about 4 times. Then I gave up.
