[News] Review of SAM Linux 2009, Kongoni Linux, PCLinuxOS 2009.2, and Sabayon 4.2

SAM Linux 2009

,----[ Quote ]
| SAM is a pleasant, small LiveCD distribution that doesn't use Gnome or KDE
| (although in all fairness XFce does use Gnome libraries). The software
| selection is small but covers most of the common themes users will want.
`----

Kongoni Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| It's pretty, but I'm not sure how much of that is the work of the maintainers
| and how much of it is owed to KDE 4. Their differentiating features, PIG and
| KISS, are less than impressive to a casual user.
`----

PCLinuxOS 2009.2 Review

,----[ Quote ]
| After running into Problems with Mandriva 2009.1 with my sound cutting out
| and making static sounds and sometimes not working at all I decided to give
| PCLinuxOS a try. Since PCLinuxOS is based on Mandriva the first thing I did
| was check to make sure the sound was working properly and it was.
`----

http://linusearch.com/wordpress/?p=289

Sabayon 4.2

,----[ Quote ]
| Sabayon is always fun. It's pretty, has a good selection of software, and
| it's still the easiest way to get a working Gentoo-based system on my
| computer.

SAM Linux 2008 'Claws' rc1: A Brief Visual Tour

,----[ Quote ]
| So, that's the end of my brief tour of SAM Linux 2008. It's a hugely
| promising distribution and I'm fairly sure we're going to be hearing more
| about it in the future.
| Well worth a try, if only as a very useful live CD.

Review of SAM Linux 2007

,----[ Quote ]
| It's a nice release and the XCFE interface serves it well but I
| couldn't say I noticed any real performance gains over PCLOS'
| KDE window manager.
|
| [...]
|
| Someone once told me that SAM2007 is to PCLinuxOS what Mint was to Ubuntu
| and I agree; but probably not for the right reasons.

CDLinux is a minimalist distro from China which takes a different | approach to small. Rather than cram as many application as possible onto a | mini (3"/8cm) CD, the CDLinux Community Edition aims for excellent support of | half a dozen languages (Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and | Russian), support for a wide variety of filesystems and excellent hardware | support, including CUPS and XSane for printers and scanners, all of which are | included in the 204MB iso.
