How to install source kernel?

  • Follow

Dear Sir:

I want to install a driver for my vedio card GeForce4 Ti 4600. However,
the installation of the driver needs source kernel. I use Red Hat Linux
7.3. I have downloaded kernel-source-2.4.20-28.7.i386.rpm. However, rpm
-Uvh kernel-source-2.4.20-28.7.i386.rpm never install it. rpm --checksig
gave the following message:

[root@cng1 downloads]# rpm --checksig kernel-source-2.4.20-28.7.i386.rpm
kernel-source-2.4.20-28.7.i386.rpm: md5 (GPG) NOT OK (MISSING KEYS:
GPG#DB42A60E )

Do you know how to get around this and install the source kernel so that
I can install my vedio card driver?

Thank you very much for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

If you can, please give me detailed instructions. I am a newbie in
installation.

No Problemo!

This is easy t fix, what you need are the GPG keys for that packaga,
they are at the same FTP server where the kernel source package was,
search one or two parent directories above.

The file should be something like GPG-KEYS (sorry if I'm not accurate
enough, I'm a SuSE user)...

If there are more than one get them all, you will prolly need them.

Installing them is the easy part, just:

rpm --install THE_DAMN_KEY

BTW, RH 7.3 is somewaht out of date, you could try RH9 or even the
fantastic Fedora Core1 or Core2, 100% Red Hat compatible and 100% Free.
