Is There Any Thing in Linux That Isn't Modal

  • Follow

I think we're all so brainwashed by DOS1900 and DOS1898 that when using
Linux, we forget that not everything is modal.

So half the time, I sit there waiting to complete one thing -- but then
I realize, oh yeah, I can still click on the main app and it's not going
to play a ding.wav

Talk about useability. Consistent non-modal dialogue boxes prove Linux
is better for the user.

Good observation. On a similar note, has anyone noticed that if you
minimise Outlook Express while downloading a list of newsgroups, and then
attempt to pop up any other app, OE will pop up along with it? The only
way to keep OE off the desktop when it's in "modal mode" is to minimise
*all* apps. That probably happens for other apps, although OE is the only
one I'm aware of that exhibits this irritating behaviour.
