"Microsoft is taking legal action in a bid to stop Apple trademarking
its App Store brand.
Microsoft has filed a complaint with the US Trademark Trial and Appeal
Board, saying "app store" is a generic term."
Yep, almost as generic as "windows". That didn't stop 'em trying to
trademark that a few years back.

I think it's great that they're getting to suffer their own stupid rules
which they wanted.
Good on Apple(tm) for pointing out how stupid the whole thing is.

Actually, I have to agree with Microsoft on trademarking "App Store," it
*is* generic -- even though it me be hypocritical for them to take the
position. Why not just trademark "Apple App Store." It's clearer and even
kind of catchy. Maybe it's not "trendy" enough, I don't know.

Yes I agree. Which is the point of my previous post. Microsoft attempted
to trademark "Windows" a few years back on the grounds that everyone
knew what it was in computing terms.

Apple could call it the "App Hole".

I have that one trademarked. But they can use it for a nominal
(relatively speaking) fee.
