Software provides privacy protection to Mac users.
anon June 03 2004 Watsonville, CA
Aladdin Systems, Inc., an IMSI company .., today announced Internet
Cleanup(tm) 2.0 for Macintosh, a new version of the popular privacy tool
that blocks suspicious data transmissions, cookies, referring URLs, ad
banners, and pop-up windows. The software cleans up e-mail attachments
and instant messaging log files to protect confidential information.
[...]
"The software combats identity theft and keeps sensitive information out
of reach. Many people worry about the presence of spyware on their
machines. Internet Cleanup 2.0 tells them which applications are
accessing the Internet and blocks rogue software from spreading users'
personal information."

The implication being that OS/X require such a solution.
Do Mac users worry about spyware on their machines ?
Is there spyware available for the Mac ?
What 'rogue software' is available for the Mac ?
I wonder is this some new form of fud.
<well they wouldn't make such a product if the Mac was really secure ...>
REDMOND, Wash. - May 22, 1997 - Today Microsoft Corp. and Aladdin
Systems Inc. announced their collaboration in delivering key Java
compression technologies to the Macintosh platform. Aladdin Systems, a

There will be. See the bottom of your own post.

See the bottom of this post, the part quoted from you.

Of course it is. Or will be, anyway.

Well, Macs still run Internet Explorer, if that helps. I think the reason
they sell something like this, though, is for the same reason they sell
anti-virus software for Macs: It comforts those switching from a Windows
platform. As the Mac salesman told me, though, there is no real need for
this on the Mac platform. (Isn't it sad to know that average computer
users think viruses and spyware are facts of life and plague ALL platforms
and are willing to shell out money for protection?)

I swear I thought I read $MONOPOLY wasn't going to make IE for Mac any
more.
Not that it matters. Apple has Safari (Konqueror), OpenOffice and
others, and there's no need to be saddled with monopoly crapware any
longer.

Which would be a huge help to Apple since IE5.0 Mac was the most buggy, crap
ridden browser ever -- it had its own *unique* DOM for javascript ( check
out how it handles form.submit() -- just the opposite of everything
else ! )

They don't, but a lot of users still have it and use it as their default
browser, unfortunately. The last upgrade I bought for it, 10.2 or Jaguar,
did include IE 5.2 for Macintosh. I want to say that 10.3, or Panther,
does not include it.

Speaking of Konqueror, have you tried the 3.2.1 version? The rendering
seems far better than in the 3.1 version of it, I think.

Both Macs here have 10.2, and it did come with it. It wasn't there
after the installation was complete, though. I removed it completely on
both as the first act. OE was Act ][ on both. Act ]I[ was to install
Eudora.

I have 3.2.2, which is better, I think. I don't use it enough to give
it a fair reading, though. I used 3.2.1 for a bit, but it was upped to
3.2.2 before I used it more than a few times.
