"Phones that are selling well arent chopped from $300 down to $50 two
weeks after theyre released. Similarly, the same price chop happened
with the Kin. And we all know how that turned out."
Yep, it's already being discounted. Although the chances that it will
be pulled off the market are slim since this time it's not Microsoft
itself which is selling the phones, but Samsung / LG / HTC etc. They
will take the hit when the phones can't be sold. The Kin phones were
Microsoft branded OEM devices for which the company took a direct hit
when they devices failed to sell and had to be destroyed.
I simply can't believe that phone makers are even willing to sell WP7
phones at all. Unless they can be reloaded with Android the customers
will be saddled up with a useless device and the manufacturer with
worthless inventory. Luckily most manufacturers didn't spend a lot of
money developing the WP7 phones since they use the same hardware
platforms as the Android phones, with slightly different packaging.
Still, it's a waste of time and effort on their part. I guess they were
bribed and at the same time threatened by M$ if they didn't sell these
phones.

Which Android version were you thinking of?

Yea. Sometimes it happens even before the phone is
released.
Verizon for example was taking orders for the latest
Android phones at least a month before they were to be
released.
The discounts were huge and they were eligible for "new
every two" promotions as well.
I don't know if the WP7 is selling or not, but I think we
have to look 6 months down the road to really determine the
impact.
That's if it's still around after then :)

Missing: Copy & paste, multitasking, encryption (fatal in mobile
applications imo), flash support, html5 (really?) no vid support in browser
(sheesh, forget about youTube).
This a total flop. Not including the basic stuff was a sure way of failing
especially with the competition MS is trying to compete with.

How long have they been working on this OS? -- and it still comes out as
beta. Has Microsoft gotten rid of all their development people?

If what Terry says is true about the missing features, the thing isn't even
a beta ... it is Windows Crippled Edition all over again.
Kind of makes you wonder. Maybe the "Win 7" in phone is actually "Win CE".
Errr, I mean, "Win Mobile". That might explain the lack of multitasking and
flash support, at least.

I wonder if "true Linux advocate" Hadron Quark will attack it, like he
has Android.

Under the hood, WP7 is a fail. The bloat camp still wins at Microsoft. The CPU and memory requirements just proves it. There's no room for increased functionality because WP7 is already hitting hardware limits. Two things Microsoft is good at: 1. forcing manufacturers into flogging their crap, and 2. increasing their bloat slowly - trying to pull the wool over people's eyes with their billions $ sales campaigns. WP7 has already failed. Like a race horse that tripped and fell out of the gate, they will never even come close to the pack of horses ahead of them. WP7 will be pulled like the Kin.
