can't see some of the screen/running ubuntu
Hi,
Just started with Ubuntu and I'm having an issue.
It looks like a portion of the screen is actually below where my
monitor cuts off, I tried to changes this with my monitor settings, but
it doesn't seem to work, when I hooked up the monitor to a windows box
it's working.
So is there some commands in linux/ubuntu that'll allow me to mess with
this screen and move the curser up?
Also, how do start the visual part of linux?
Thanks,

There are monitor settings that are part of your monitor that you can
adjust.

Did you do an expert install and not choose to install the desktop?
sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop
If the desktop is installed, try
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
