I don't seem to be able to set the default printer in the Gnome print manager.
I was able to modify the default printer within the printer configuration tool
(which I think is called printconf-gui), but the Gnome print manager still shows
the previous setting, no matter what I do.
On a possibly related note, I seem to be picking up the previous setting as the
environment variable PRINTER, although I can't find where this is being defined.
Thanks for any help,
Bill Thompson

There are bugs in printconf-gui, and the config files it produces are not
compatible with CUPS. Before Redhat fixes this, I recommend that you set
up your printers using the CUPS web interface (localhost:631). Delete the
old config, then set up printers as above. Print manager should pick it up
from there.
