Converting PDF to OpenOffice.org

  • Follow

Hi

I am thinking of writing a presentation using the beamer LaTeX class. Is it
possible to somehow convert it to OpenOffice.org format (just in case
someone wants a Powerpoint version of the presentation) ?

Thanks.

latex2rtf and then import into OpenOffice.

Sorry, I do not know if such a filter exists, but there is another way
that's a bit komplicated but works:

1. Convert your LaTeX document to PDF (e.g. using pdflatex).

2. Import the PDF document into KWord (part of KOffice in KDE).

3. Export from KWord into StarWriter (or StarImpress, resp.) format.

Perhaps you have to try both target formats, it might be that the
to-Writer or the to-Impress filter produces better results...

It isn't an easy conversion. There a number of tools that can help, but
my experience is limited to single page figures, not entire documents.
There is a ghostscript ad-on called ps2edit that can generate Windows
metafiles, and can run as an import filter for MSOffice. The most robust
driver is, owever, non-free. There is also Y&Y's dviwindo, which allows
you to cut and paste from the dvi display to Windows apps using scalable
fonts -- handy for equations but not much help with graphics.

A colleague was faced with this problem and "solved" it by making images
of each page of his pdf presentation using ghostscript, but then he
had to manually "place" each page in to a blank presentation.

I read a guide about it, but I don't remember where.
It' not possible to do this conversion
Anyway, all you can do is to convert every page in one image and import them
in OpenOffice's slides.

tex4ht can convert documents to OO format. I am not sure if it supports
beamer. It does support article, and maybe you need to add configurations
for some beamer commands/environments.
