Detecting if there is a medium in a scsi removable drive

  • Follow

Hello,

Is there any way to detect from the command line if there is a
medium in a scsi removable drive (MOD)? Trying to mount it or to read
the first sector is not a solution for us since we have MODs
where the data doesn't start at the beginning of the disk (reading
sector 0 returns and IO error).

I looked around /dev/scsi (this is a devfs system, but I would like
to get rid of it since it is depreciated) and /proc/scsi, but I
couldn't find anything obvious.

Also, is there a way to check from the command line if the disk
in a scsi MOD drive is actually write protected?

Thanks, Vilmos
