Greetings.
Whenever I play a movie with MPlayer using the XVideo video output (mplayer
-vo xv), I get excessive debugging messages in /var/log/kdm.log
and /var/log/Xorg.0.log. And I really mean *excessive* -- after watching
just few hours of movies, the log files are several gigabytes in size!
Here is what is logged in both files (repeated ad nauseum, several times
per second):

OVERLAY_UPDATE
This problem is occurring with SuSE 9.3, MPlayer-1.0pre7try2,
xorg-x11-6.8.2, and an i915-based graphics card. (I can't use a later
version of X.org as support for my system's video card is broken in later
releases.) The problem also occurred on another computer I have running
SuSE 10.0 and an ATI 3D Rage P/M Mobility graphics card, but I can't give
exact version numbers for X.org now as this very bug caused my system to
crash spectacularly. (I left a DVD playing on repeat, and the system ran
out of disk space; it locked up and I had to power-off the machine. Upon
reboot, grub tells me the file system is corrupted. I may need to
reinstall the OS.)
The logging problem occurs only when I use the XVideo driver; if I play a
movie with MPlayer without hardware acceleration (mplayer -vo x11) then no
logging occurs.
Is this a problem with X.org or with MPlayer or what? Any advice on how to
fix the problem or where to report it?
Regards,
Tristan
