Is it possible to connect my home Linux box to a work windows VPN? If
so can anyone explain how to do it or point me to some docs or a HowTo?
any and all help appreciated.

It depends how the VPN is done. If it uses IPSec, just install it and
configure it. See the various documentation and the specs of your
VPN.
