How to choose the active sound device (from 2) in Linux?

  • Follow

I'm running SuSE 10.0 and have a nForce2 AC97 Audio Controller (MCP)
with a snd-intel8x0 driver and a SB Audigy with a snd-emu10k1 driver.

No matter what I do (e.g. deleting one device in YAST's Sound config,
changing the Audigy to sound card #0 instead of #1) I can't get Amarok
to play from the Audigy when I want it to.

Any suggestions?

If you use the xine engine for Amarok you can then start xine itself and
choose which card you want to use. I'm sure there is a xine configuration
file somewhere but this method is easy and it worked fine for me.

I think amarok stinks BTW and use xmms because it is trivial to do this
and other configuration changes. In addition amarok is a resource hog and
is buggy as hell.
