So my sister wants to do video IM chat. Fine. I look up compatible IM
programs and come up with Kopete. I install it through Synaptic, Kopete
is version 0.12.7. I have two webcams, one (the more recent) Kopete calls
"USB2.0 JPEG Webcam", 17a1:0128, and the other it calls "USB Camera
(0733:0430)" and lsusb calls "ViewQuest Technologies, Inc. Intel Pro
Share WebCam". Kopete shows the picture from neither, both appear as a
motionless black square, usually with some extra garbage.
I compiled the camera drivers from gspca-3a2ca168163e, the new one is
gspca_t613.ko and the old one is gspca_spca505.ko. I tried v4l2
straight, that plus "Enable Video For Linux API 1 compatible Layer (NEW)",
and "Enable Video For Linux API 1 (DEPRECATED)". I turned on "Enable
old-style fixed minor ranges for video devices" and "USB Video Class
(UVC)". None helped. Any ideas?
