I am looking for a low-end digital microscope for my 8-year-old 
daughter, for all those that I have found so far seem to be firmly 
Windows-centric. Anybody know of any digital microscopes well supported 
under Linux?

A simple web search for "linux digital microscope" returns the 
information that the $30 DigiMicro 200x zooming USB digital microscope 
appears as a V4L device.
