I am looking for some kind of replacement program for the 'standard'
graphical login managers. All of the 'standard' ones just have a box
where a user can type in their username and password. This is fine for
most users. I want one which displays a small (user customizable)
graphic for each known user on the system (basically for every
interactive user found in the passwd db). This is for a public
library's public accessable computers (we will be encuraging regular
users/patrons to have a personal login account).
I am looking for something similar to what was available for IRIX (on
SGI machines). I've done some Google searches, but I've not come up
with something. I may wind up writing something from scratch, but want
to avoid 'reinventing the wheel' as it were...

Several distros provide that ability. Have you looked at the login
customizations available to you?

I don't believe CentOS (the distro I am using) provides what I am
looking for, but I will check.
Yes, there is a very simple user browser theme included with GDM. I am
looking for a much 'better' one.
