Mandriva LE2005 - disappearing windows
Since I installed Mandriva, occasionally the window I am working on will
disappear suddenly and an application with a shortcut on the Desktop will
open.
Anybody else experienced this?

Which desktop? (There are more than one.)
Is there anything in /var/log/messages that might shed some
light? Does your desktop environment capture stdout and/or
stderr from X applications anywhere? How about in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (or other number if you're using a
different display number)?
If it happens frequently enough to be catchable, you might
get some information from starting a terminal window, then
starting your application from shell in that terminal
window, so the terminal window will show stdout and stderr
from the application.

Mandrake has two desktops available. I use only one. My WM is KDE. It
hasn't done it for a few days now. before it was 2 or 3 times in 24 hours.
LE2005 seems to be largely a beta-test version. I am seriously considering
going back to 10.1.

I have seen this with KDE. About once a week KDE will launch an application from an icon which is clicked
on but under the current application; as if it was on top.
