PC sound generator.

Hmm. I want to prototype something fast, that may ultimately go into a 
PIC.. Its to simulate IC engine noises for model planes..

Basically I want to generate a sequence of pulses whose width and 
frequency are controlled by (sliders? well something I can easily 
adjust)  and apply it to a basic bandpass filter before going to the 
speakers. In analog terms anyway.

What sort of software is available for this?

I want to MAKE sounds a la synthesiser..

Specifically an API into the sound system...

I guess I can code up the timer tick interrupt stuff.

aRts Builder? (A synthesizer designer that comes with the sound processor
that comes with KDE.)

I am a model aircraft enthusiast, so please let me know if you succeed with 
this, or if you are producing any other levels of model aircraft simulation.
