recompiled glibc breaks sytem

  • Follow

when trying to recompile (with and without any changes) and install the
new glibc i always run into trouble which at the end leaves my system
unusable at all.

basis:
standard workstation
rh9, all updates

installing source rpm:
rpm -i glibc-2.3.2-27.9.src.rpm
rpmbuild -bb /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/glibc-9.spec
build works fine, no problems, after this I get some fine rpms.

When installing with rpm -ivh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/glibc* --force the
system breaks even though the glibc should be exactly the same already
installed.

Do I have a flaw in my scheme and where, or is something seriously broken?

Sry, for x-posting but I seriously need an answer quickly.
f'up set to alt.os.linux.redhat
