USB mass storage problem

  • Follow

Hello, I have two USB Mass storage capable devices, an mp3 player and a
digital camera. Both works (with mount /dev/sda1 /mnt) but if I mount
the first, then umount it and then I want to mount the second one the
latter doesn't work. I have to reboot to be able to mount the other
device. It doesn't matter which one (mp3 player or camera) I try first,
the other one doens't work till rebooting.

It's with Linux kernel 2.4.24.

Second device will be assigned to the next available SCSI disk device,
/dev/sdb in this case.

No, you don't. You just have to take a look at the output from dmesg
after you plug the new device in; that'll say something like:

Attached scsi removable disk sdb at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0

....which obviously tells you which disk you'll have to mount. HTH,

Try using the command 'rmmod usb-storage' after disconnecting
the first device and before connecting the second.
