What replaced chkconfig in FC5?

  • Follow

I just installed an FC5 system and can't figure out what
command is used to enable/disable init.d services. On older RH
systems I always used chkconfig, but that seems to be gone in
FC5.

man -k init.d didn't show anything useful.

What command replaced chkconfig?

Nothing, /sbin/chkconfig still exists in FC5 and FC6.
I have FC5 and FC6 Test 3 installed. Do you just lack
/sbin on your path? The below is what I get on
the FC6t3 host for these commands:

# uname -a
Linux luxury.verizon.net 2.6.18-1.2784.fc6xen #1 SMP Thu Oct 12 19:27:21 EDT
2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
# cat /etc/redhat-release
Fedora Core release 5.92 (FC6 Test3)
# which chkconfig
/sbin/chkconfig
# rpm -q chkconfig
chkconfig-1.3.30-1

Yup. Mere seconds after that post I realized I didn't have
sbin in my path. I cancelled the post, but wasn't quick enough.

Yup. I've tripped over that enough by now that you'd think I'd
know better.

I don't do X on that machine, but I'll keep that in mind if I
do run across an FC5 machine that's running X and the default
desktop.
