can hdparm on a DVD drive improve battery life? (Thinkpad 600e)

  • Follow

I just got an 8x DVD drive for my Thinkpad 600e and I'm happy with the
rate at which it reads data. Is there any reason I should toy with the
hdparm settings? If I can make it more efficient, will that extend
battery life?

I assume the warnings about hdparm making your system unbootable don't
apply unless you're messing with the drive you boot from.
