To whom it may concern:

 Sorry for the massive cross-posting, but I figured I'd post it to the
relevant newsgroups and hope for a response.  I have two problems which
are, in my opinion, highly related.  I'd appreciate any help any of you can
be.
 First, DRI will not load on my Toshiba Satellite A55-S306 centrino (the
video card is Intel 855GM).  I have tried Intel's own drivers for this
card, but it lead to X.org not loading because "no screens found".  By the
way, I'm running Slackware 10.1, using the /testing 2.6.10 kernel.  I have
tried many a time searching online for answers and/or configurations for
this video card and nothing really made any difference, so I just gave up
and went with a vanilla "xorgconfig" xorg.conf file.
 Second, DVD playback absolutely sucks.  While xine/gxine are running in a
300x300 window (Futurama), cpu usage is maxxed to 99%.  I have tried
lowering all the quality options in both programs, but so far nothing has
brought about a serious improvement.  I do not know what video driver to
use with xine/gxine, so I left it at "auto".  Does anyone how I can get
xine/gxine to stop lagging?
 I appreciate any help anyone can be with this.  Here are some excerpts of
