Linux Network build, kickstart file problems.

I have setup a Linux network server, NFS enabled and a client server,
PXE enabled. The PXE, client server boots and loads the boot loader
from the network server but I cannot get the client server to recognize
or execute the kickstart file from the network server. I am trying to
install Linux to a client over the network via a kickstart file.

Anybody got suggestions?

I'd strongly suggest using http for downloading your ks config
and performing the installation. Http is more robust/faster then
using NFS for this task.

Good luck

Hi, Interested in trying Linux? Well you came to comp.os.linux.advocacy for some reason, and you probably won't stay long. Here's a list of Linux distributions to choose from. Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com Newbie friendly and good support forums. SuSE http://www.novell.com/linux Pay for some support if you're not opposed to spending a little money. Fedora Core http://fedoraproject.org If you're more comfortable with your computer, try this one out. If you get frustrated, don't give up so easy. There is a wealth of information online for whichever distro you choose....

IN your opinion what is the best way to share files between LInux and IN your opinion what is the best way to share files between LInux and MAC OS X?
IN your opinion what is the best way to share files between LInux and MAC OS X? I set up SAMBA on the LInux machine and the MAC (running the very latest OSX) can copy files to the SAMBA share at lightning speeds. When I try and copy files from the LInux machine to the Mac they take an eternity. So slow in fact I have to kill the process . I would appreciate any thoughts on why that maybe and also if there is a better way to share files (I guess HTTP-FTP would be the most sensible option ). navti wrote: > IN your opinion what is the best way to share files between LInux and > MAC O...

Problem backing up files on linux machine ( linux newbie )
I have a problem backing up files on my Linux machine. I have tried using tar and cpio but the file exceeds the 32 bit file size limit of 2 GB. Ideally I would like a backup that was a replication of the file system so I could access the files individually not in an archive I also want to exclude the filesystem I am writing the backup too for obvious reasons. Can anyone help pls. Don Try using the tar command as a pipe with an exclude file. This example will backup the machine from the / mountpoint recursively excluding the filesystem mounted on /mnt where the backup will be held. # Creat...

My Linux is not your Linux
To the denizens of comp.os.linux.advocacy! So many people demonstrate in this newsgroup that they know only a Linux of Hatred and Greed, of paranoia, and of a selfish sense of entitlement. They seem always to be behaving like monkeys in reaction to human dissenters, throwing feces at one another and beating their chests pretending to know something. My Linux is not that Linux. My Linux is the Linux of Love, of sharing, friendship, community. It is a uniquely human Linux and not one for monkeys. I have Linux! I have Linux!
Ok, after two days of trying to get Windos 1900 installed and working , I sat down an hour ago and installed Linux. In an hour. Smirk. Ok, I will be honest. I did have some problems, but I believe they were of my own ignorance. 0) I started with trying to install Suse. However, I couldn't get it to install. Why? Because I didn't read the menu. There is a startup menu and the first entry is boot to harddisk. I thought that was the thing to do so I did it about 4 times. Then I gave up. However, I went back to it and subsequently realized that I should have chosen the 2nd men...

Linux to Linux Fileshare Problem
I have two old desktops both running Ubuntu Linux, I also have an XP laptop all working behind a draytek 2600 router. Samba is set up on both Linux machines, my XP machine can access both Linux machines and both Linux machines can access the XP laptop. Problem is neither Linux machine can view the other's files. If from either Linux machine I connect to the network it shows the other Linux machine, clicking on the networked Linux machine it then lists the shared directories but if I click on the directories a window opens requesting a username, domain and password. The username sh...

File transfer from linux to windows back to linux causes corrupted .mat files?
Hi, I backed up my .mat files onto my windows machine, and when I transfered it back to linux, i couldn't load "some" of them! I use ssh for file transfer. On both sides, Matlab version is 7.0.4.352 (R14) Service Pack 2 Any suggestions? Thanks bahoo I routinely save mat files on my PC and then swap them over to a Sun box. They always work fine for me. Try something -- take one of your mat files from your PC and just "drag and drop" onto your Linux machine. What I mean is, get an explorer window and navigate to a dir on your Linux machine. Drop your mat file in th...

Problem with Linux network
I have a dual boot system -- RedHat Linux 9.0 and Windows XP -- and I told both Windows and Linux to get my IP address and DNS information directly through DHCP. It worked perfectly with Windows and I was on the net immediately, but I cannot seem to get Linux online. The installation recognized the card but when I boot up I get a message saying that for eth0 there was a 7322 bus error on line 354 of /sbin/dhclient. (That is the essence of the message -- it goes by too fast to write it down exactly.) When I try to ssh to another machine it tells me that it temporarily cannot get the ...

Linux setup problem.
Hi. I have tried installing Mandrake Linux 9.1 on my machine at home, but I can't seem to get the video card to work. I have an ATI Radeon 7500 on an EMC monitor, and Linux installer can't detect a suitable mode for the display. Everything works just fine on my Win XP OS. The Linux installer runs XFree86 v4.3, and I think this one is most up to date. Any suggestions will be much appreciated? Thank you. Linux workstation to Linux Server file access???
Gentlemen; Previously I've run Samba on my linux servers to allow access from my Windoze desktops. This worked with limitations but was usable. Now I've replaced many of my desktops with Linux workstations and I have tried mounting the same samba shares successfully but I'm experiencing quite some difficulties with ownerships and permissions (especially permissions). My research and other groups are telling me that I should rely on *nix native network sharing (nsf?) to accomplish this. So, to attest to my ignorance on this issue, please explain if nsf is the preferred way to g...

D3/Linux Linux swap file usage
Okay... Put on your thinking caps... I have a D3/Linux 7.2.1 system that I did a complete restore on a couple of weeks ago. Before the shutdown to do the reload of files, the box was using over 85% of the 2GB swap space. After restarting the system and getting users back on line, the swap usage was around 90MB and has been growing slowly ever since. The swap usage is now over 200MB. So my questions are: 1. Does the usage of swap ever go down? 2. What is using up the swap space? 2a. Could this be a shortcoming of FlashBASIC programs that supposedly use the swap, and u...

Linux Router/Firewall

The strange thing is that I'm not able to connect Linux->Linux now. I get no ping reply from ether client to router or the other way around. Tcpdump shows some arp traffic though. Both computers can ping their own ip and loopback without problems. Any pointers? Fry wrote: > Linux->Linux now. I get no ping reply from ether client to router or the > other way around. Linux should disown elementary OS Linux for the Scam that it is.
No Problem'o, DooFuS. I can blame it all on the Linux Mint TEXT size being = too small on my 19 inch monitor. As Moi was saying... I tried two more additional downloads of elementary OS Linux. Both of them= likewise failed. While they could have been discriminating against Moi for his ZERO contribu= tion, I will be damned if I am going to PAY GOOD money for something when t= here is no guarantee that the stupid DOWNLOAD wont fail, JUST TO FIND OUT t= hat it WONT work at all on my computer hardware, let alone whether OR NOT i= t will actually do what is being claimed. Moi has NEVER experienced a download problem with Linux Mint. From what I have seen, elementary OS Linux is a scam, much like those Windo= ws come ons that claim that they can fix your computer problems merely by m= ucking with the Windows Registry.
