WDK 7.1 and DDK 2000\XP on the same OS

  • Follow

Hi,
I've installed an old DDK 2000\XP on my computer. But I need to use a
current version of WDK 7.1 for some of my new projects. Is that
possible to keep both versions of DDK\WDK installed together on the
same OS ?

Thanks in advance,
Sergey.

Yes, I have NT4 DDK, Windows 2000 DDK, Server 2003 DDK and 3 WDK's
installed. Be aware that the WDK will replace Windbg on you.

Surely yes.

Stop using this obsolete stuff. You will never ever need it anymore.

To develop for w2k (and where w2k compat is a must) - use WDK 6001.18002

To develop for XP+ - use the latest WDK (7xxx).

Thank you very much, friends !
Yes, it seems everything to work properly.

I would recommend to first make a decision on whether w2k support is =
needed for this project, and choose one and only one WDK for it - 6001 =
is w2k is needed, latest if you can drop w2k.

Then make a decision on whether you really need some new stuff in =
Windows kernel (or can live with the old stuff only), and, if not so, =
use the oldest build env - i.e. w2k (or XP) for x86, and 2003 for x64, =
having a single binary for all OS versions.

This is a very suitable business model.
