com.sys & vcom.sys

It's been a while since I last installed 1.1 and when I
did it yesterday I forgot to de-select Ray Gwinn's com
drivers. After installation I removed the entries from
config.sys and un-remmed com.sys and vcom.sys but they
won't load. I checked and it's in c:/os2/boot. What's
the cure? :-)

They must come after mouse/vmouse/pointdd device drivers in the
config.sys file.

I believe they are, I checked while I was adding some other
entries (mozilla_home, etc) It's late and I'm having a cold
brew, I'll check again in the morning :-)

com.sys and usbser.sys question
I got a question, for those knowing more about that matter than myself, which shouldn't be hard ;-) Temporarily having 2 phone lines at my disposal, I wanted to put my old modem back to use as a phone number dialer, using the BonusPack PIM Phonebook application. But I had quite some trouble to get my COM1 port to work at all with any comm application. It finally turned out, that COM.SYS has to be loaded before USBSER.SYS, since otherwise USBSER.SYS is hijacking COM1 unnoticed. Now, in the order shown below, it assigns itself to COM6 (if not remed out), but COM1 still d...

redhat 8
hi, i'm running redhat 8 and cannot find the two OS include files sys/dkio.h and sys/dklabel.h. nor can i find references in internet groups that anyone else has this problem. any ideas why this doesn't not come standard with redhat dist, or why i seem to be the only one with this problem (this seems strange to me). and most importantly, where the best place to download this from? thanks in advance, richard boaz On Thu, 02 Sep 2004 10:52:13 +0200, richard wrote: > i'm running redhat 8 and cannot find the two OS include files sys/dkio.h > and sys/dklabel.h. Is it OT here to talk about IPC and pipes? Or are all aspects of kernle programming ok here? Bill Bill Cunningham <nospam@nspam.com> wrote: > Is it OT here to talk about IPC and pipes? But if you're interested in how to use IPC or pipes from a userland program then posting to e.g. comp.unix.programmer or comp.os.linux.development.apps will probably make a lot more sense. R...

sys.stdout vs. sys.stderr
In Python 3.1 is there any difference in the buffering behavior of the initial sys.stdout and sys.stderr streams? They are both line_buffered and stdout doesn't seem to use a larger-grain buffering, so they seem to be identical with respect to buffering. Were they different at some earlier point in Python's evolution? > In Python 3.1 is there any difference in the buffering behavior of the > initial sys.stdout and sys.stderr streams? Win98 IO.SYS / JO.SYS
Does anyone happen to know how many sectors or clusters are loaded of IO.SYS (or JO.SYS, if it's different), under Win98? is there a limit to the number of clusters that get loaded? or is the whole chain loaded? i know that execution begins at 0070:0200... (as opposed to MSDOS v6.22, starting IO.SYS execution at 0070:0000) ...i'm just trying to figure out how much code i can pack into JO.SYS before i have to start loading something else off of the disk... i don't want to have to worry about the disk for the time being... thanks in advance Bx.C Bx. com.sys /f ??
When I installed eCS 1.2, the config.sys file added the switch /f to com.sys with no further qualifiers (ie device=c:\os2\boot\com.sys /f). I have a Back-Ups Pro ups hooked up to com1 running upsmonitor 1.2 g, and when I installed ecs, the program told me it couldn't find the ups on com1. Warp 4, installed in the computer, found it with no problem, and when I substitued the original (1990s vintage) sio.sys for com.sys in ecs, it found the ups with no problem. SIO had no further qualifiers on the line (ie just sio.sys). As far as I know the com port is at the standard address (sio h...

Sys Technology LCD monitor (sys-172L-C-JT)
Greetings, I have 2 of these monitors and the power LED just flashes on and off. It has a switch mode power supply. I found no "smoking gun" so to speak. I checked all of the power supply's electrolytics with an ESR meter. The fact that I have 2 with the same problem tells me that there must be others out there too. Has anyone repaired any of these with this problem? If not I will do the work and post what repairs it. Thanks have you tried them both on a different system with a different vid card? If it still happens, there is probably a problem with the display...

Boot hangs at TESTCFG.SYS or APM.SYS on Athlon64 with 1GB RAM
I know Daniela's recommendations to remove both drivers and did that. The system runs well but I'm not sure what depends on TESTCFG.SYS driver. I tried several combinations of both drivers to prevent the hang at boot without success. I suspect both are trying to query the same system data. If I remove only TESTCFG.SYS and keep APM it hangs at APM.SYS. Several versions of APM have been tested, including the latest one 10.139. It is really strange to me, that when I remove the second 512MB everything is fine. Both drivers load and APM suspend and shutdown (switched off) wor...
