[9fans] p9p acme freeze under osx

When I'm using p9p acme under OSX and I have a compile/svn commit
etc... running in a win window and if I click on other windows a few
times acme will freeze. Has any one else noticed this behavior?

When was the last time you rebuilt?
Sounds like the behavior fixed by

[9fans] p9p acme freezes when ctrl-f inside its mounted directory
Hello, I noticed that when running acme in plan9port and having its directories mounted say on /mnt/acme, then if I try from within a win window in the acme to auto-complete a directory name---I am in /mnt, I type 'a' and hit the 'insert' key or ctrl-f, or I am anywhere inside the acme filesystem---the program freezes (though, if I write it myself, I can cd to the acme directory). Am I doing sth wrong or it shouldn't do so? Thanks Ruda On Tue, Aug 4, 2009 at 10:33 AM, Rudolf Sykora<rudolf.sykora@gmail.com> wrote: > I noticed that when running acme in plan9port...

[9fans] Dvorak on Plan9; Plan9/Acme for Unix
I just started toying around with Plan9. Some questions: Are there ways to switch my keyboard layout, to Dvorak? If not, what file would I have to edit in what way to get a new layout? Are there Acme or even total Plan9 clones for Unix (in particular Mac OS X, but X11 windowing would be fine)? I know there's Wily, but I can't get it to compile, and the website seems kindof old/unmaintained. Are there other, still alive versions of some Acme for Unix, or of a library that emulates the Plan9 interface? > Are there Acme or even total Plan9 clones for Unix (in particular &g...

[9fans] acme from p9p vs acme in plan 9
Hi there, are there any big differences between acme from p9p and the original acme in plan 9? I am asking this because it has been a while that I don't use plan 9 per se, but just its tools on linux (from p9p of course). I recently was trying 9vx and the free account on TIP9UG and I noticed that, from some unknown reason to me, I am not able to have long or multiple lines in acme's tag. Is it supposed to work like this? on p9p's acme I can have as many lines as I want on the tags (which is certainly really nice) but I can't have them on plan 9's acme. Saludos -- Hugo &g...

[9fans] git and (p9p) acme
Hello, Is anyone using git with p9p acme set as the editor? Most things here work fine (as long as the pager is set to cat or something like that), but I've been having problems with 'git commit --amend'. If I use B as the $EDITOR, git considers the log file edited as soon as it is opened in acme (and does not wait for a Put), and if I use E instead (which I thought was meant for that), git does not "notice" when I Put the file, so it just hangs there. Am I missing something? is there a simple solution to that? Cheers, Mathieu hi list, On Thursday 19 of April 2012 1...

[9fans] p9p acme woe
Hi, In plan9port acme, if I select text in window $winid and write "addr=dot" to acme/$winid/ctl, acme/$winid/addr doesn't change. Am I doing something wrong? Writing an address to acme/$winid/addr and "dot=addr" to acme/$winid/ctl changes the selection, though. Is there a better way, other than writing "addr=dot" and reading /addr, for an external script to know the position of selected text in an acme window? I played with it and I'd really like to study it and get used to it. Ideally, I would like to make it my "everyday OS", to do all the nice stuff you can do with a computer (a part from work and study), like browsing the web, watching movies and so on... Is anyone using it for such things? Is there, for example, a decent browser for Plan9 (I haven't found any)...

[9fans] p9p host os recommendation
Hi Everyone, thanks for all the help with qemu and such. I've managed to get it running, but it appears to completely hog my XP laptop. So I'm abandoning my quest for P9 in a VM for the moment. I will now attempt at running P9P instead. Since it runs on so many platforms, what would people recommend I use as the host OS? Bearing in mind that I am working in a Windows only environment with an XP laptop, I'm looking for something I can run under VMWare. (I've got a reasonably chunky laptop with 1.5GB and 1.7GHz.) Essentially, which Unix variant is easiest to install on VMWa...

[9fans] Resizing acme tags in plan9
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The P9P version of acme has had multi-line tags for a while now, but there is still a "bug" lurking in the implementation; it's a bit of a semantic issue with allocating lines of pixels to the various windows, which I'll get to below. The bug manifests as occasional black lines between windows in a column, and minor confusion when a bunch of collapsed (tag-only) windows cluster at the bottom of a column. I'll explain the confusion in a bit. The bug only manifests if you mix fonts within a column. When I impl...

[9fans] shell for wins in p9p acme
Hi, what's the best solution if I want all the wins I open in acme to automatically have rc as a shell (with -l, so that my lib/profile has been read too), while still keeping bash as my SHELL when I'm out of acme, for various reasons. So far I simply have a script/launcher for acme that exports the SHELL to rc before starting acme, but I still have to source lib/profile everytime I open a new win, which is a bit annoying. Of course I could change src/cmd/9term/rcstart.c, but if there's a less intrusive solution I'd like to hear it please. Cheers, Mathieu why do you want t...

[9fans] P9P acme New/Del bug?
I'm seeing P9P acme (running in linux on a Wintel PC) crash intermittently when executing "New xxx", and if that doesn't cause a crash middle clicking Del in the tag of the newly created xxx window nearly always causes a crash. I just downloaded and installed the latest plan9port.tgz to make sure I'm current and I still see the problem The couple times I saw the crash when executing New, the following message was written to stdout or stderr: devdraw: reading wsys msg: Connection reset by peer In the cases where New xxx doesn't cause acme to crash, it creates a +Err...

[9fans] using plan9 fs for archive from other OS?
at work we run a handful of Win32 servers (god help me) and a few unix servers. we're doing tape backup nightly. our full backups are at the limit of what our tape drive can deal with and are still growing. so we need to come up with a different solution. and, more to the point, i *HATE* tape backup. further, plan9's dump fs is the best backup system i've ever seen (and, along with /lib/ndb, the thing that made me fall in love with the system as a sysadmin). so... any suggestions on how to use either the old 3e fs, fossil, and/or venti to perform backups from non-plan9 systems? ...

[9fans] (p9p) acme mail: sort by conversation
Hello all, title says it all, a few notes however: 1) it is not a perfect sort by thread as I'm not using the references to all the previous mails in the thread, only the subject and the replyto/messageid. That seems to be working pretty well in most cases anyway. 2) it has not been thoroughly tested, so bugs are to be expected, however it's been working fine for me so far. 3) the sorting method is certainly not the most efficient, it's the simplest for me to manipulate I could come up with. 4) I haven't looked at plan 9's code for that, but I don't...

[9fans] p9p os x
If you run OS X, the next time you update your p9p tree and run ./INSTALL, your graphics programs will use native OS X windows instead of X11. This means that people interested in trying p9p on OS X no longer have to dig up the X11 install CD first. If you prefer X11 windows (and you might, if for example you ssh from other machines into your Mac and use X forwarding to run p9p programs), you can create a file $PLAN9/LOCAL.config containing the line WSYSTYPE=x11 to keep the old behavior. Re: [9fans] p9p for Mac OS X
Don't know about hg, but `cvs up -dP' gets it done on case- INsensitive HFS+ volumes on Macs I have. Source sync tool of preference aside, I can second rog on case- sensitive HFS (or even Mac(NeXT) UFS if you like). Since both of these can be less convenient on boot volumes, a partition for the purpose, or a removable of some kind so formatted, is handy, since the filename case issue comes up in more than just p9p. -Josh ...

Re: [9fans] Resizing acme tags in plan9
you're talking about the layout within columns, not the layout of the columns from left to right, right? within columns, it would be nice if new windows were sometimes opened below the last one touched. perhaps i should always work at the bottom of a column, but i don't. zerox nearly always chooses the wrong place for the new window -- all the way at the bottom. among columns, it would be nice if the column guide box (or whatever it's called) worked like the window guide box. clicking on it should expand the column horizontally. one thing i would like to see added to acme is a...
