New to COM, how to find CLSID_XXXXXXX and IID_IXXXXXXX

Hi,

I'm new to com, and i see all of articles that do some nice things
with com. My only question, is how do the writers of these articles
know to use IShellLink, and CLSID_SHELLLINK???? when they want to
create an instance of a shell link?

I know the question is kind of circular, however, it still puzzels
me...

I guess i'm looking for a big list of COM objects and there
interfaces...

~Thanks~ for any suggestions

Sometimes the fastest way to find such info is to look in or search
relevant header files.

Sometimes the documentation is what it ideally should be, at least
mentioning everything you need to know.

In this case, see the documentation,

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/shellcc/platform/shell/programmersguide/shell_int/shell_int_programming/shortcuts/shortcut.asp>

There are _many_ such lists, because the number of COM classes is open-ended;
it's trivial to create one yourself. Well, at least with right tools... ;-)

Programmers, Programmers, Programmers, ...
As Steve Balmer correctly stated, while making his monkey dance, it is applications and hence programmers that make a platform. The fact though is that if you want to do professional programming, then Linux is the platform for you. I know that this statement will get the heckels up on a lot of trolls in C.O.L.A, but I have a recent experience that proves this. I am currently working for a Windows only house producing a system that receives and transmits around 1000 telegrams per second in each direction on a UDP socket, translates them into a different format and creates a log entry for each ...

How does the OS find the new device's driver?
When adding a new device to the system, how does the OS find the appropriate driver for the device? I hope you answer this question on two aspects: 1 if the driver has been intalled, how does the OS do? 2 if the driver has not been intalled, how does the OS do? I beg your answers. Thanks! a) the bus driver reads the bus-specific device data, builds a PnP ID string and reports it to PnP b) kernel-mode PnP creates an in-registry devnode for the device - or reuses the existing one c) if the devnode was not existing and was created by PnP just now - then kernel mode Pn...
