http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~jeggers/Files/Research_Eggers_IBM.pdf Not bad, but they say Toshiba made the P75 monitor in 1991 and the first ThinkPad screen in 1992 If true, I'd sure love a color LCD screen. The big move came in 1986 when IBM entered into a two-year joint research alliance with Japanese manufacturer Toshiba focused explicitly on full-color, active matrix (AM) LCD TFTs. IBM initially considered other partners such as GE, Sharp, Matsushita, and Hitachi but settled on Toshiba in part because “they were probably hungrier than others” and in part because, at that point, Toshiba had built the largest prototype. The relationship initially focused on proving that the smaller (2”-3”) LCD televisions could be effectively scaled up to larger sizes, and then moved to the creation of a 14” full color prototype computer display. In 1988 the two firms signed a joint venture agreement to create Display Technologies Inc. (DTI) and build a manufacturing facility in Himeji City in Japan next to an existing Toshiba monochrome LCD plant. By 1991, DTI had created the monitor for the P75 portable and in 1992 for the first IBM ThinkPad. In 1992, DTI produced around 500,000 TFT panels for use by IBM and Toshiba, as well as for sale to other companies. ...

I just had to deal with _yet another_ user of pre-Lion OSX (10.4 in this case) who couldn't find something because they hadn't scrolled the window down. Hi, I have a couple of words in my robots program that involve looping and jumping out of said loops. The latter has been hard for me to get right and I could not find examples or descriptions on how to do this. So questions are: How can I end: a ) BEGIN ... AGAIN b ) DO... LOOP c ) CASE ... ENDCASE Thanks for your help! Christian a) you can't. At least, not without carnal knowledge of your system. It's an infinate loop, by design, so if you find you need to jump out of it, it means you shouldn't be using it ;-) Example code using AGAIN: http://turboforth.n...

Newbie Q: Extra spaces after conversion from utf-8 to utf-16-le ?
Hello everyone. I am an absolute Newbie who has done a good amount of googling with the keywords utf-8, utf-16, python, convert and has reasoned that the following code could be used to convert a utf-8 text file to a utf-16-le (I believe this is what Windows uses for Unicode): s1 = open("utf8_file_generated_with_perl.txt", "r").read() s2 = unicode(s1, "utf-8") s3 = s2.encode("utf-16-le") open ("new_file_supposedly_in_utf16le", "w").write(s3) Well, this code kind of works (meaning I do not get any errors), but the produced file cont...

utf-8 issue on netbsd (do netbsd 2.1.0 support UTF-8?)

Hi all, I'm quite sure that most of my proposal has already been published at least once before. But I didn't find such a publication so I think it is worth to write about it (again). Short summary: When developing an application with lots of classes it can be very helpful if you know exactly what methods of classes developed by other programmers you can use and which methods are private to their instances (or to the class) and should not be invoked by other objects. And for your own classes it is also very helpful if you know which of your methods are probably use...
