It has been many moons since I have had to initialise a disk for long term
use. And since then, many things have changed with VMS.
So, if I am to initialise a 30 gig drive with OSD5 structure, for use on
VMS 8.3 (and VAX VMS 7.3), are there any parameters to INIT that I should
focus on, or are the defaults optimal ?
Back in the days of 5.5-2 on my all might microvax II, I had a whole bunch
of parameters, which I assume are now no longer necessary ?
Here is one original init command:
$!INIT $1$dua0: SHIMANO -
$! /CLUSTER=12 -
$! /DIRECTORIES=384 -
$! /EXTENSION=24 -
$! /HEADERS=300000 -
$! /INDEX=MIDDLE -
$! /MAXIMUM_FILES=490000 -
$! /OWNER=SYSTEM -
$! /WINDOWS=60
What is the optimal cluster size these days ? Any other parameters I
should tune ?
