iSCSI and OpenVMS 8.4

  • Follow

Does anyone have any insight into how open the implementation will be
- i.e. will it be fairly happy to talk to most storage vendor stuff
out there?

I know I'm a mere hobbyist but I'm seriously considering forking out
for a DroboPro (the new releases will support iSCSI) to centralise all
my storage needs, and would love to get it working with OpenVMS.

Is this likely to work out?

I don't know about direct iSCSI support in VMS V8.x, but you could
always run PersonalAlpha and SIMH to use the iSCSI on a suitable host
system.

For a commercial system, CHARON-VAX and CHARON-AXP support iSCSI
storage. [Shameless Plug Alert (tm) -- I am a CHARON reseller.]

You could use NFS from another system to provide the bulk of the iSCSI
space to VMS. You can't boot via NFS, unfortunately. [Do later Alphas
have a way to boot from TFTP?]

OpenVMS 8.3-1H1 on Integrity included a "Software-Based iSCSI Initiator
Technology Demonstration Kit" or TDK -- see
