Yes Paul, it is MP3 format. It's a podcast Paul; albeit, the audio says it
is NOT a podcast. Just keep in mind the famous quotation from Shakespeare's
"Romeo and Juliet" Act II, Scene 2. ;)

Happily, it's not in a proprietary format ill-conceived by that schlock out-
fit in Redmond, Wash. thus, everyone can listen to it! :D

It was deliberately made a format that even Mac users could listen to
:-)

There's also the slight clue that the MP3 files has /podcast/ in the url
:-)

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a podcast.
What's a podcast? it is nor .wmv, nor .ra,
Nor .rm, nor .ram, nor any other part
Belonging to VMS. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call portable audio
By any other name would sound as sweet;
So OWAU would, were it not OWAU call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which it owes
Without that title. OWAU, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Broadcast all thyself.

By a name
I know not how to tell thee who I am:
My name, dear community, is hateful to myself,
Because it is an enemy to thee;

My ears have not yet heard a hundred words
Of that podcast's utterance, yet I know the sound:
Art thou not OWAU a podcast?

No, fair community, if it thee dislike.

It is the soul of VMS that calls our name:
How silver-sweet sounds a sales pitch,
Like softest music to attending ears!
The ears of new VMS customers!

:)

Enough about the format, what do you think of the content?

I was able to listen through Bruce Ellis yesterday and then I had to
head out. What I'd heard so far sounded pretty good.

Ken sent me an email about 2 weeks ago asking to get involved with it
but I have been so busy with VMS code, the radio station, photography
and all sorts of other interruptions that the end of the year always
brings that I never got around to replying.

Unless they are blessed with a newish VMS system with no audio support.

Oh, it is ABOUT VMS, fancy that...

FWIW, I particularly liked the revisit of the QUANTUM system parameter.

I second that. Good information, particularly the Quantum info.
I liked it well enough to download the MP3 for the other VMS administrators
in my group to listen to.

Regards,
Tom

I just listened to most, but not all, of this broadcast
and note the following that needs to be corrected...

There is mention of mouse drivers and thumbwheels
and reference to Fred Kleinsorge and Dave Sneddon.
I can not claim any responsibility for mouse drivers
and thumbwheels -- credit for that needs to go to
Fred Kleinsorge and Tim Sneddon.

Considering that http://www.openvms.org/pages.php?page=VPN bills it
as being a "podcast" that seems only fair.
