PWS 600 au keeps going into AlphaBIOS

  • Follow

My PWS 600 au has recently started to switch itself back into AlphaBIOS
mode if powered off for very long, and now I can't get it back into SRM.

I _think_ that a new battery is in order and might cure it, but can
anyone confirm that a dead battery can be the cause of this?

I have a 433au with the same phenonomen.

BIOS, CMOS, advanced, change OS to VMS, save, save, power cycle
and it runs again (after memory).

That's a typical and usual symptom of a dead battery, yes --
arguably, the SRM and the AlphaBIOS/ARC and the no-setting or
lost-setting code should have been three separate codes. You should
also find that other console-level settings are also lost, as well as
the time, etc., though you can manually select the necessary settings
and start up SRM, etc.

me too! :-)

that is my 433au would go into alphabios on power on until I replaced
the battery (which is a common model of battery). It's been fine since.

Thanks for the confirmation.
