Well the one that came with 7.3-1 was 6.2
Now I believe that the 164LX was used in the Pelicans Dec 3000/300LX,
of which I have two, one with Tru64 4.0d and the other with VMS7.3-1
and I believe I have the same firmware in both, but can only check the
unix box
thor/tom 261 > /sbin/consvar -v -l
Firmware Rev: 6.0
system fam:7 cpu:2 smm:1069
I would try upgrading the firmware first to at least rule that out.

No. The DEC 3000 are alltogether EV4 (and maybe EV45) systems.
The 164LX is as the name already shows an EV5 system...
