Our up-to-now DEC/Compaq/HP-only datacenter is about to be the recipient of a
couple Sun Fire V440s. (Not my choice, not under my control, so no need to ask
why...)
For the storage needs of these systems I'd like to connect them to our EVA3000,
and use Data Protector and our LTO tape library for backups. I'm very
interested in hearing any suggestions about this idea, especially from folks
who have tried to do this.
The folks who are specifying the Sun systems also have Sun storage shelves and
disks, and another backup product in mind. If this is less trouble than trying
the hybrid Sun/HP thing, or if I don't hear from somebody who has succeeded
with such a configuration I'm inclined to do it that way.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can find documentation about the supported hosts for the EVA3000 on the HP
storage web pages. I'm sure you will find that SUN Solaris is supported, but you
will have to compare all the details yourself (version Solaris? , SUN cluster? ,
Veritas ? etc.). You can also ask HP to confirm that your specific SUN
configuration is supported.
The LTO tape library should also be supported (I expect), but you can ask SUN to
confirm that.
I don't know Data Protector, so I can't help you there.

I'm not the SUN admin, but I do handle our EVA5000 configurations. We have
three different Solaris systems connected to the EVA.
