I was curious to follow the discussion on VAX emulation so I posed the
question
to HP and I received permission to post the answer here. Teh result is
twofold
1 You can only get a transfer license for CHARON-VAX
2 You can only run this license on an HP produced computer, you can't,
for eaxmple, run it on a Dell that you might have lying around.

Well, I can understand them not supporting non-HP hardware - vendor
specific drives and all that.
But on point 1, the corollary is that if I find a piece of software
which was never ported to Alpha (for whatever reason), but suits my
business needs, I would need to find a second hand fully licensed VAX,
do the necessary license transfer, and then do it again for CHARON-VAX.
Just a theoretical situation of course, but am I right in that
assumption?
