Looking for a concurrent program to analyse
Hi,
I'm looking for a concurrent project to validate a static analyser
which
looks for high-level dataraces.
The project I need must be written in java, open-source (preferably
free
software), actively using concurrency with synchronized blocks/methods
and
using fine/medium grain locking. It is desirable to the application
to be publicly known, and it's size should not be too big nor too
small.
I appreciate any suggestions,
Thank you,

Atomic variable Vs. Atomic operation
Hi,
Lets say I have two shared variables a,b which are related to each
other. When multiple applications share these shared variables, access
to them needs to be an atomic operation, otherwise the relation may
break. So to ensure mutual exclusion, I'll put their modification
under a critical section protected by lock.
critical_code
{
P(mutex)
a := something
b := something
V(mutex)
}
Lets say my hardware/OS/compiler supports atomic variables. Then I
modified my above code as follows.

{
atomic a := something
atomic b := something
}

Fairness: Where can it be better handled?
Hi,
I would like to share one of my practical experience with
multiprogramming here.
Yesterday I had written a multiprogram. Modifications to sharable
resources were put under critical sections protected by P(mutex) and
V(mutex) and those critical section code were put in a common library.
The library will be used by concurrent applications (of my own).
I had three applications that will use the common code from library
and do their stuff independently.

Small moderation crisis in the news group ... So long and thanks for all the fish!
UC Santa Cruz had a hardware failure on its NNTP (news) server last
month; this is why you have not seen any posts including the once

UCSC has decided to discontinue NNTP entirely just as NASA Ames did.
Your alternate moderator is forwarding this and the most recent posts

It has been amusing.

Lock-free ParallelQueue 1.1 ...
Hello all,
My Lock-free ParallelQueue algorithm have been updated
- my new algorithm avoids false sharing - , the new version
have scored 17 millions of pop() transactions per second on
an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - the old score was 7 millions -
There are three ways to reduce lock contention:
1- Reduce the duration for which locks are held
2- Reduce the frequency with which locks are requested
or
3- Replace exclusive locks with coordination mechanisms that
permit greater concurrency.
With low , moderate AND high contention, my ParallelQueue algorithm
