Adaptec 2906 crashes Win XP
Hi,
I have recently installed a new Adaptec 2906 SCSI card in order to use a
Microtek 35t + slider scanner that I was given.
Win XP recognises the card, uses the Win XP driver (there do not seem to be
any other drivers available?)and says it is working without any conflicts.
If I boot from a floppy I can use the Adapetec SCSI utility to set the data
transfer rate as required for an external device. Within XP the utility
doesn't see the card, but from what I've read this is a common PnP issue.
If I boot with the scanner turned on (with a terminator plug on the
scanner), XP sees the scanner and knows what it is, asks for drivers which I
installed from CD. All as expected.
BUT - if I try and scan anything it's an instant crash/reboot. Even with the
scanner off, or with the cable unplugged it's the same if I try and use the
scanner utilities/tes programme.
Only odd thing I've been able to find is that there was an IRQ allocated to
the card that was the same as something else, although Win XP didn't say
there was a conflict. I've disabled and uninstalled whatever it was sharing
the IRQ with, and tried swapping PCI slots. Still does the same.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mark.

See if Microtek have an updated driver, if not, take the scanner back
as faulty/ not fit for purpose. It's a Microtek problem, not XP.
Mike.
