Any Way To Unlock AIT3 LVD Tape Drive

  • Follow

The Sony AIT3 reference manual defines a way that software can lock out the
use of the eject button. Apparently Backup Exec makes use of this feature.

When the library encounters some hard error condition and you need to
manually open up the library and remove tapes, you are now locked out.
Sony also defines a software command to unlock the drive so that the eject
button will work again.

My question is does anyone make a utility that will let us send the unlock
command on the SCSI bus so we can extricate tapes in such cases? I know
about tools like SCSITools, but those require us to manually build a SCSI
control block. That's way beyond the expertise of some of the techs in my
lab.

Do a google for Robin Miller's scu utility. The original homepage seems
to have disappeared, but you may find a mirror.
