Need help changing SCSI ID's

  • Follow

Hi,

I wonder if you could help a SCSI newbie out please.

I am having problems with my DELL Powervault 132T (robotic tape
library and drive) and have been advised by Veritas to change my SCSI
ID's.

We are running a:

DELL PV775
Xeon 2.4Ghz
2 GB Ram
Win Server 2003 Standard

Which has 3 SCSI adaptors:

1 x Adaptec SCSI Card 39160/3960D - wide - Ultra160
1 x Dell PERC 3/Di RAID - wide - Ultra 160
1 x Dell PERC 4/DC RAID - wide - Ultra 320M

The Ultra 160 SCSI has two devices attached, a Media Changer on target
6 and a Tape Drive on target 1.
The PERC 3/Di has two Array Disks attached on target 0 & 1 (internal)
The PERC 4/DC has 7 array disks attached on targets 0,1,2,4,5,8. (This
is a Powervault 220S)

Veritas suggested changing the Media Changer to 2 and the Tape drive
to 3, ensuring the drive is higher than the changer.

My question is: Is this ok, and also where do I do this. Is it through
the SCSI bios and is this accessed during boot up?

I have read though the FAQ and this has really helped my understanding
of SCSI, but I would really like to make sure I get this right incase
I completely mucked up our system.

Thanks,

You set the SCSI ID's on the library itself. Check the installation manual
for details, it's usually through a menu on the front or a set of switches
at the back of the machine.

Veritas likes a specific order for the SCSI ID's. Real software can find out
for itself (whoops, can't believe I said that... ;-)

Believe me, I can.

Thanks for your help, I have changed the ID's and now just need to test
tonight.
