RE: Kerberos 5 v1.5.1 on AIX 5.2 or AIX 5.3

Believe it or not; both solutions seem to work and compilation succeeds
!

#define GET_HOST_BY_NAME(NAME, HP, ERR, TMP) \
    {                                                           \
        (HP) = (gethostbyname_r((NAME), &TMP.ent, &TMP.data)    \
                ? 0                                             \
                : &TMP.data);                                   \
        (ERR) = h_errno;                                        \
    }

Worked and so did...

#define GET_HOST_BY_NAME(NAME, HP, ERR, TMP) \
    {                                                           \
        struct hostent my_h_ent; \
        (HP) = (gethostbyname_r((NAME), &TMP.ent, &TMP.data)    \
                ? 0                                             \
                : &my_h_ent);                                   \
        (ERR) = h_errno;                                        \
    }

Thanks for the help ! I will continue testing with my current install
base on AIX. I really appreciate the rapid responses and solutions !

I think "&my_h_ent" was supposed to be changed to "&TMP.ent" in that
macro. (The "TMP" stuff was because making such narrowly-scoped
automatic variables may not guarantee that the storage is still live
when the pointer gets used. Instead, now the caller has to supply a
variable of a type controlled in this header, system-specific, that
holds all the longer-lived storage we need.)

Lamar, could you let me know if that works for you?

Ken

Right. Take Ken's solution. He's correct, there's definitely no
guarantee that automatic storage inside the GET_HOST_BY_NAME block will
still be live afterwards. Also, my fix of just declaring the storage
isn't good enough; that will probably result in calling the library
gethostbyname_r function, ignoring its results, and instead using
uninitialized storage for the result.

Beware: GET_HOST_BY_ADDR right afterwards also has the automatic
storage problem. (It doesn't have the unitialized storage problem
because it doesn't use TMP at all.) You probably aren't hitting that
case since you'd most likely get a compiler error from passing the
wrong # of arguments to the macro if you were using it.

Any one had any success compiling KRB5 1.5.1 on AIX 5.2 or 5.3 ? I am experiencing the same errors as a previous poster; but have not seen any solutions. Wasn't really the solution I came up with; but it worked. You might be correct since now the OpenSSL binaries will not build against the Kerberos libraries currently. libssl and libcrypto build fine along with everything else; but the actual openssl binary fails. I have seen several emails from different people over the last few months on trying to get KRB5 1.5 or later to compile on AIX 5.x. And no responses that fix the problem. I was able to get through these errors by finding the compiled library in the src tree, copying it to /usr/lib and linking it to a lib.a file. moving xlc 5.0.1 on aix 4.3 to aix 5.2?
We are upgrading our B50 with AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.2 We currently use C for AIX xlc 5.0.1 on AIX 4.3.3. I remember reading xlc 5.0.2 is required to be used for AIX 5.2. Does this mean we have to purchase a new compiler, or is there an upgrade available. thank you sol sol gongola wrote: > We are upgrading our B50 with AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5.2 > We currently use C for AIX xlc 5.0.1 on AIX 4.3.3. > > I remember reading xlc 5.0.2 is required to be used for > AIX 5.2. perl 5.8.2.0 base fileset is in AIX 5.2 or is in 5.3?
Did this base fileset first appear in 5.2 or did it first appear in 5.3? (I don't have 5.3 hosts, so I can't check that.) Thanks! -Dan Dan Foster wrote: > Did this base fileset first appear in 5.2 or did it first appear in 5.3? > > (I don't have 5.3 hosts, so I can't check that.) > > Thanks! > > -Dan Not really sure, but I think appearance was with 5.3. Checking at my site and found the highest level on a 5.2 machine was 5.8.1.12 - never seen a 5.8.2.0 on a 5.2 machine In article <dqgafi$jfe$1@online.de>, Friedhelm Neyer <Friedhelm.Neyer...

Dual booting AIX 5.1 and AIX 5.3
I am having trouble switching to the AIX 5.3 system from AIX 5.1 - I have no problems going the other way. The system hangs on reboot after putting up the starting software message with the LED set on E140. I am using bootlist to switch between 2 SCSI boot disks. The problems only to seem to have arisen when I upgraded the first disk from AIX 5.2 to 5.3. I can recover by booting off the 5.3 CDROM and then aborting the boot and when I now restart the system it successfully comes up in AIX 5.3. Just to complicate matters the AIX 5.1 system runs in 32-bit mode and the AIX 5.3 in 64-bit mode. Joh...

mixing AIX 5.2 and AIX 5.3 on power5?
Looks like I may get a p550q soon. I'm not allowed to migrate the existing applications (yet) to 5.3. I want to install a 5.3 LPAR and begin understanding the VIO layers. Can I mix 5.2 and 5.3 LPARs on the same p550q? I know the 5.2 must be at the whole CPU level and the 5.3 could use portions of a single CPU. Anything else? Mike yes you can have 5.2 & 5.3 on different lpars on the same p550, and yes, you need 5.3 to do micropartitioning with the cpu's. with 5.3 you can also run your lpars in uncapped mode so that unused processing units can be accessed by your active partitio...

if time = 3 seconds, how do i set the values of the time steps 0,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0,3.0,5.0 to -9999 from time =3 seconds
Hi I have 18 inputs (arrays) which contain certain statistics and if time = 3 seconds, set the values of time step 5.0 to -9999.0. I was wondering if there is an efficient way to do this without using a lot of case statements? Thank you. Hello AdrianT, it's not really clear to me what you want to do... I suspect: you have an array containing values and you want to output them with a fixed timing of 3 seconds: you should use a for loop autoindexing trough your array and sending the value to your indicator/output/whatever. Put a "wait for next multiple" into your for loop. Or do you want to have a minimum time delay of 3 seconds? Again use a for loop, get the time value and use a InRange&Coerce with minimum set to 3 seconds... Or you should explain more precisely what you need... Hi Thanks for that. Let me explain. The time may vary. Let me give an example. if time = 2.1, I want to set the time step's 3.0 and 5.0's values to -9999.0. if the time =0.1 seconds then I want to set 0.2,0.3, 0.5 etc values to -9999.0 etc .................................................................... Can you please help? Thank you. Hello TUDS, do you use different accounts/nicknames ? Well, that's easy, at least for a sorted array: Search for your time-value in the array (Threshold 1D array). Fill all elements from that index till the end with your "error...
