RE: KRB5 1.5 or 1.6 compiled on AIX 5.2/5.3 #5

Phil,
	Tested on AIX 5.3 TL05 SP4 with XLC++/XLC 8.0 and worked great !

	I will be testing on AIX 5.2 TL09 SP3 and AIX 4.3 ML11 here
shortly...

Thanks for getting this figured out ! Also, appreciate the help
from Sam and Martin who were working on it too...

Subject: Re: KRB5 1.5 or 1.6 compiled on AIX 5.2/5.3

I've gotten 1.5.x and 1.6 to build and run on AIX 5.2 (domain referral
in 1.6 works nicely). So far I have only tested the client commands:
klist, kvno, kinit, kdestroy. No 3rd party software tested yet, either.

This was done with the IBM VisualAge C++ Professional / C for AIX
Compiler, Version 6.

The one major change: add LDFLAGS="-brtl" to configure. My configure
line was (prefix edited):

    ./configure --without-krb4 --prefix=... CC=cc LDFLAGS=-brtl

There was one problem during the 1.{5,6} builds (1.5 has a bug that's
been documented already), it failed in

    making all in plugins/kdb/db2/libdb2/test...

with

ld: 0706-006 Cannot find or open library file: -l db
ld:open(): A file or directory in the path name does not
exist.

my quick&dirty fix for that was (starting in .../krb5-1.6/src/):

    cd lib
    ln -s ../plugins/kdb/db2/libdb2/libdb.so.1.1 libdb.so.1.1
    ln -s libdb.so.1.1 libdb.so

Do you really want rtl as a linker flag? Isn't that going to be an
issue for people linking against the kerberos libraries.

Why is that the right solution?

Hi,

I too am trying to build MIT kerberos 1.6.2 for AIX 5.3.(yes I know.
I'm sorry too.) I've gotten it to build by building as described below,
but a bit of looking into this led me to discover the real reason the
link step is failing without -brtl.

it seems that the AIX linker search mechanism only treats files with the
..so extension as libraries if -brtl (run time linking) is used.

I believe that libtool deals with this by generating both a .a version
of the library(using ar) and a .so version of the library(using xlc with
the -brtl switch).

I'm not sure exactly what the right answer would be, but simply creating
links to the libraries with the .a extension should allow the compile to
complete.

That said, I have another problem.

after compiling with the -brtl flag, the "kdb5_util load <file>" command
  fails with the following error:

queen% /usr/local/sbin/kdb5_util load /home/ma3d/secret/k5db.dump
load: Unable to load requested database module 'db2': plugin symbol
'kdb_function_table' not found

I think my next step will be to re-build without optimization, and try
and see what's going on in the debugger, but I also figured that I'd see
if anyone else had any helpful suggestions.

so, I tracked this down to the dlopen of the module failing because it
couldn't find a dependent module(libdb)

I worked around the libdb problem in a slightly different way than phil
did, and that may be why it didn't get installed for me, but I really
don't know why the library isn't getting installed in the first place?

what is this library, how should it be linked, and what all depends on it?

I'm really trying to figure out how this should actually work so that I
can figure out where the current situation is going wrong. Any help is
appreciated. My real goal at this point is to help get a patch in to the
kerberos developers so that the next release can be built on AIX out of
the box again.

Wasn't really the solution I came up with; but it worked. You might be correct since now the OpenSSL binaries will not build against the Kerberos libraries currently. libssl and libcrypto build fine along with everything else; but the actual openssl binary fails. Phil, Have you successfully linked OpenSSL with the new Kerberos libraries ? Re: [tao-users] ACE 5.3.5 + TAO 1.3.5 + CIAO 0.3.5 beta released #2 #2
Hi Alex, > What are OCI's plan's for a supported TAO 1.4 release and developer > guide? Will this effect the release of the 1.3 guide? This is an excellent question - I'm sure Malcolm Spence will pitch in when he has a chance and I suspect that OCI will be supporting TAO 1.4 in due time. None of the changes in TAO 1.4 should affect the relevance of the info in the TAO 1.3 developer's guide - there's just more new stuff to document as time permits. Take care, Doug ...

RE: KRB5 1.4 vs. KRB5 1.3.6 on AIX 5.2 #2
Downloaded KRB5 1.4.1 and the installation worked great with GCC and AIX make. None of the problems that were encountered with 1.4.0 and the unbalanced "(". The problem with: /usr/local/kerberos/bin/kinit -V kinit(v5): Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requested realm while getting initial credentials still exist. If I force it to version 4 KRB it seems to work with the krb5.conf: /usr/local/kerberos/bin/kinit -4 xxxxxxx Password for xxxxxx@xxx.xxxxxxxxxx.xxx: kinit(v4): Can't send request (send_to_kdc) The krb5.conf file is the same file that worked with the 1.3.6 version of KRB5. It does not seem to work with KRB 1.4 or 1.4.1. Any one having similar problems or solutions ? if time = 3 seconds, how do i set the values of the time steps 0,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0,3.0,5.0 to -9999 from time =3 seconds
Hi I have 18 inputs (arrays) which contain certain statistics and if time = 3 seconds, set the values of time step 5.0 to -9999.0. I was wondering if there is an efficient way to do this without using a lot of case statements? Thank you. Hello AdrianT, it's not really clear to me what you want to do... I suspect: you have an array containing values and you want to output them with a fixed timing of 3 seconds: you should use a for loop autoindexing trough your array and sending the value to your indicator/output/whatever. Put a "wait for next multiple" into your for loop. Or do you want to have a minimum time delay of 3 seconds? Again use a for loop, get the time value and use a InRange&Coerce with minimum set to 3 seconds... Or you should explain more precisely what you need... Hi Thanks for that. Let me explain. The time may vary. Let me give an example. if time = 2.1, I want to set the time step's 3.0 and 5.0's values to -9999.0. if the time =0.1 seconds then I want to set 0.2,0.3, 0.5 etc values to -9999.0 etc .................................................................... Can you please help? Thank you. Hello TUDS, do you use different accounts/nicknames ? Well, that's easy, at least for a sorted array: Search for your time-value in the array (Threshold 1D array). Fill all elements from that index till the end with your "error...

[ace-users] Tests failed : ACE 5.5.2 - AIX 5.3
Hi, My first mail before my message in the group failed (my subscription was not activated). The PRF below describes my problems. I can compile and link but several ACE's tests fail. I only use ACE library and only compile it by cd'ing in the ace directory before running make. I already made some fixes described below to compile and to link the library. I'm not abble to interpret the faild tests to identify the problem source or area. I didn't find the scoreboard before my mail. I see that several tests fails for all compilations on AIX. I try to reassure myself by looking these results, it's not only for my configuration. But it's a daily build with last development version. For the 5.5.2 stable version they should probably not fail ? Regards, PO Houot. KRB5 1.4 vs. KRB5 1.3.6 on AIX 5.2
I was hoping someone might be able to help me fix an issue I have encountered. I tested KRB5 1.3.6 on AIX 5.2 using C for AIX and the installed make. Created a krb5.conf and krb5.keytab to talk to a Windows 2k AD Domain Controller. Had no issues, connected and received tickets fine. I recently installed KRB5 1.4 on the same machine after removing the 1.3.6 footprint. I encountered an issue seen by others with the error: "Syntax error at line 1 : `(' is not matched" when using AIX's make; but it seems to work fine using GNU Make. After compiling and doing a make install, I consistently receive the following message when using kinit while using the same keytab and configuration as 1.3.6: "Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requested realm while getting initial credentials" Is there a significant change to krb5.conf between 1.3.6 and 1.4 ? The binaries seem to work fine; but it does not look like it is even looking at the krb5.conf file. I can change the name or move it and the message stays the same. I have tried disabling DNS for realm and kdc; put master_kdc in the entries; but still does not even act like it is looking at this file. Any help is greatly appreciated.
