Beta version of new Windows Installer

Hi!

I just uploaded a beta version of the new release of our Windows Installer for
NTP. The main changes are:

- Contains NTP Version 4.2.4p4@1.1520
- Now includes the NTP Time Server Monitor V1.0 (installed per default but can
be deselected)
- fixed a few things related to the Startmenu Entries
- fixed the RANDFILE environment variable error

Currently I plan to release the final version at the beginning of next week, so
please test this beta release intensively if you have the chance to do so.

This version has been named "modena" in honor of Luciano Pavarotti
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luciano_Pavarotti), the famous Italian tenor who
died last week.

The download link is:
http://www.meinberg.de/download/ntp/windows/ntp-4.2.4p4@1.1520-modena-beta-o-win32-setup.exe

Please note that this version is not digitally signed, we will sign the final
version of the installer itself and the included NTP binaries.

Best Regards,
Heiko

David,

no problem ... I think I would have to start paying you for your efforts if you
would step in and test this version again :-) I am sure there is someone else
who can do that. And, we are of course testing the new version as well...

New version of the Meinberg NTP Installer for Windows
Hi Wizards of Time, following the security update of NTP we built a new version of our NTP Installer for Windows which now installs NTP 4.2.4p6 (ntpd and tools) as well as the full NTP Documentation. The installer now also includes the current version of the OpenSSL library (0.9.8j). All executable files and the installer itself have been digitally signed by Meinberg. Please refer to our formal announcement: http://www.meinberg.de/english/news/software-new-ntp-version-for-windows-4-2-4p6-security-update.htm You can download the latest version of the Meinberg NTP Installer for Windows for free, just point your browser to our NTP download page: http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/ntp.htm We also offer a NTP graphical user interface for Windows called NTP Time Server Monitor. This software allows to check and monitor the status of NTP servers (the locally running ntpd as well as NTP servers on the network), allows to control the NTP service on your Windows machine and offers a wealth of tools and possibilities for debugging and diagnosis of ntpd instances. The NTP Time Server Monitor is available for free on our website: http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/time-server-monitor.htm Any questions regarding the NTP Installer for Windows? Please contact us at ntp-support@meinberg.de! Regards, Heiko P.S.: This installer incarnation has been named "vegas" due to the CES that is currently happening in Las Vegas, Nevada. They for sure have an impressive moun...

New Version of the Windows Installer for NTP available
Hi everybody, I just uploaded a brand new version of our NTP Installer for Windows, including a number of fixes / changes: - Now set "Password never expires" when creating a user ( fix for https://ntp.isc.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=513 ) - Check if "Password never expires" is set when using an existing account or upgrading files - NTPD is deleted without REBOOTOK flag (no reboot needed anymore) when uninstalling/upgrading - Changed Info URL in uninstall panel - Stopping ntpd and retry a few times before throwing an error (fixes problems with systems where it takes some time to stop the service) - Now use predefined server sets for almost any country defined as a pool zone - Save W32Time status and restore it at uninstall time - Only use "Tcpip" as a dependency for starting the service Regarding the predefined server sets: For every country a set of five servers has been defined by me. The set for a country xx normally contains 0.xx.pool.ntp.org, 1.xx.pool.ntp.org, 2.xx.ntp.org, 0.yy.pool.ntp.org and 2.zz.pool.ntp.org, where xx is the code of the country and yy and zz are codes of "near" countries (network-wise). For example for Europe yy and zz mostly are from de, nl or uk, because those countries maintain good network links into the other european countries. If a country does only have one or two pool servers available, I used those and three neighbor country servers. Included in this Installer is a brand new version of N...

NTP for Windows: Beta Release of new stable version
Hi, Time Travellers! I just put a beta version of the upcoming "stable" Windows NTP Installer on our website. This new version is actually based on a pretty old one, a tarball snapshot from July 2005. The current codebase, including the stable-branch, has some difficulties on Windows systems. All Windows users having stability problems with our xmas edition should try to use this "fluxcap" version instead. Please test the beta release as intensive as possible and let me know when you find any problems and annoyances. I tried to backport as many bugfixes as possible into that old version, but I surely missed a few. One thing that I know for sure is that the leap seconds handling is not working in this version, it was fixed after July 2005 and is too complex to be easily backported. The IERS already announced that there will be no leap second at the end of 2006, so the next possible date would be July 2007 and I sincerely hope we managed to release a more recent version of NTP for Windows as our "stable" release. As always, any bugreports or feedback can be sent to ntp-support@meinberg.de or posted in the Windows NTP Bugreports forum at www.time-server-monitor.com (please make sure you do not accidentially select the Time Server Monitor bugreports forum for any bugreports related to our Windows port of NTP). NOTE: The link below is pointing to a temporary location and I urge you not to refer to this URL on any web page, because...

New Version of the NTP Installer for Windows (4.2.4p5)
Hi everybody! The NTP Public Services Project recently announced the release of ntp-4.2.4p5 and after two weeks of testing I am happy to be able to announce an updated Windows Installer version (nicknamed "beijing" due to the 2008 Olympic Games) including this version and a few minor improvements for the installer itself. The new NTP version has been declared a recommended upgrade for Windows and comes with some great improvements of the network interface handling code. If you run NTP on a Windows laptop or on a machine that deals with network interface changes (e.g. IP address changes or appearing and disappearing interfaces), you should give it a try. This version handles delayed initialization of network interfaces gracefully, if your NTP service is starting before your network interface(s) could have been initialized properly, NTPD will add these interfaces as soon as they are ready and retries name resolution for configured server and peer entries until it finally found out the corresponding IP addresses. The installer uses a 3 seconds update interval for the network interfaces, i.e. it scans for new interfaces every 3 seconds. During our tests we have seen no significant performance penalty for this and therefore the installer will setup the NTP service with a "-U 3" command line switch. If you want to use this new feature, you should not use the "Update Binaries" functionality of the installer: If it detects an already ...

Windows Installer
I just placed a new version of the Windows Installer on our NTP download page at http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/ntp.htm because the version which was available the last two days (1.1367) was simply too hot and new and included an annoying bug. Please take my apologies for any inconveniences this may have already caused. I recommend to download the version 4.2.0a@1.1354-o and install it instead. If you already have installed a version of NTP with our installer, you only need to answer "Yes" when you are asked if you only want to upgrade files. Please note that this is also a development release. The new installer is working only with a recent version of NTP, therefore at the moment I am not able to provide a "stable" release. The one available now has been marked "tested", but cannot safely be considered stable. I will publish a Windows Installer Version with a stable release as soon as the project releases the next stable version. The last version marked "stable" is Version 4.2.0 dated 2003/10/15. It would be very helpful if you could provide me with feedback whether the installer is OK, buggy or lacks some functionality somehow. And, please contribute to the NTP project by testing and giving feedback to the project team. If you think you have found a bug, please go to bugs.ntp.isc.org and check if your bug already has been detected by someone else. If not, you are encouraged to submit a new bug report and help ...

New Windows NTP Installer available
Hi Gurus of Time! I am very happy to announce that we just released a new stable version of our NTP Installer for Windows, including ntp-4.2.4p3 and openssl-0.9.8e. The new version includes - besides the current ntp-stable version - a number of nice new features: - silent/unattended install (see http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/readme-ntpinstaller.htm for instructions how to use that feature) - checks for Windows Firewall settings (on XP SP2, 2003 and Vista) and offers to add an exception for NTP (opening UDP Port 123) - now is digitally signed by Meinberg (the installer executable an...

New features for Windows NTP Installer
Hi! I am currently working on a new version of the installer and would like to hear any feature requests you might have. At the moment I am working on adding Start Menu entries (can be deselected of course but will be enabled per default) for - starting/stopping/restarting the service (using micro batch files a la "net start ntp" - basic NTP status monitoring (running "ntpq -p" in a DOS box, requery every 10s) - documentation (official HTML docs if installed plus Installer Readme) - weblinks (to www.ntp.org, www.ntp.isc.org, www.pool.ntp.org and www.meinberg.de/english/sw/ntp.htm) - the configuration file (allows you to edit it with the assigned program, e.g. for ".conf" files) This will add a little bit more visibility to NTP on Windows machines, at least for the regular users. I will do some tests with the service dependencies (checking out DNSCache for example) on various flavors of Windows and will add the possibility to take care of the Windows firewall settings during an unattended install (the current version of the installer checks for the firewall settings during an interactive installation). If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. This would also be a very good time to report any bugs you still see in the current installer version! Cheers, Heiko Heiko Gerstung wrote: > Hi! > > I am currently working on a new version of the installer and would > like to hear any feature requests you migh...

New NTP version for Windows with GUI setup available
Hi all, I'd like to announce that there is a new NTP version for Windows with GUI setup available at the Meinberg download page: http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/ntp.htm#ntp_nt In this version a stability problem of earlier versions has been fixed. Additionally this version contains some new features: - The Windows system clock is slewed quickly (in a 2 second period) to account for the leap second. - Detection of the leap second announcement, and insertion of the leap second are reported in the event log. - If the new parameter -M is given on the command line then the NTP s...

New beta Windows Installer addressing NT problems
Hi! I just uploaded a beta Version of our Windows Installer for NTP which includes a recent ntp-dev Version with a small patch applied. This patch addresses bug #450, which affects Windows NT4 machines and prevented them from using any remote association. The new version obsoletes my 1.1397-beta version a few NT users downloaded from us. The new workaround is capable of dealing with multiple IP addresses / NICs on a NT4 machine. However, using autokey on a NT4 system will fail with this version. If you need to use autokey on a NT4 machine, you should stick with the latest release ver...

Windows installer, different versions of Python on Windows
I would like to install several copies of Python 2.4.2 on my machine, but it doesn't seem to be possible. If I allready has a version installed, the installer only gives the options to: - change python 2.4.2 - repair python 2.4.2 - remove python 2.4.2 I would like to install different versions of Zope 3, and since it is installed under a specific python version, the simplest solution would be to install several Python versions, and install a different zope3 version under each python install. Have I misunderstood something here? -- hilsen/regards Max M, Denmark http://www.mxm....

Windows installer prompts me to install labview each time I try to open a vi file
Hi   Anyone experienced this problem before? Its getting annoying   Goy Hi Goy, I've seen this problem happen whenever I've removed any of the files that get installed with LabVIEW...I've also seen it happen when a DLL that gets installed with LabVIEW is overwritten with a DLL of a different version.  My best suggestion would be for you to go to Add/Remove Programs, select National Instruments Software, select LabVIEW from the resulting list, and choose the "Repair" option...this replaces all LabVIEW files with the originals from the LabVIEW installer (so use this option with caution if you have purposely modified anything that installs with LabVIEW, like VIs from vi.lib).  Other than this, I'm not sure what the problem could be...you may have some other program/installer that is attempting to remove or modify files that were originally installed by LabVIEW. Good luck, -D Hey Darren You might just be right. I fiddled with some example vis. Lemme try tomorrow. THanks :smileyvery-happy: Goy ...
